Why is the room-side surface temperature ideal for operating T-STRIPE?

The T-STRIPE built-in thermostat is used to control the T-STRIPE window heating system. It measures the temperature of the room-side glass surface and switches the heating on in good time before condensation forms.
Why does the T-STRIPE design thermostat measure the surface temperature on the inside of the pane and not the outside temperature? Why is the room-side surface temperature ideal for operating T-STRIPE? We are often asked this question by our customers and would therefore like to explain the reason to you. It seems obvious that the heating should be switched on when it is cold outside. The assumption is often: "When it is cold, condensation forms". We can confirm this for most cases, but as almost always, there are also exceptions. This is evident, among other things, when it is cold outside but solar radiation warms the pane so much that no fogging occurs. This example clearly shows that the outside temperature alone is not a suitable indicator for operating the T-STRIPE window heating system. As previously mentioned, the room-side surface temperature of the window pane is much better suited, as too cold values lead to condensation. Because the temperature of the pane indoors is influenced by many factors, such as the sun, and does not depend solely on the indoor or outdoor temperature, the T-STRIPE built-in thermostat measures the room-side surface temperature of the pane. This solution ensures efficient operation of the window heating system because the measurement is taken directly at the source of the condensation, and it only switches on when condensation would actually form due to current temperatures.
What advantages does the T-STRIPE built-in thermostat offer:
- Fully automatic control of the window heating system
- Measurement of the room-side surface temperature for energy-saving operation
- Installation of the sensor without drilling
- Simple installation and commissioning
- Modern design
- Multiple windows can be operated simultaneously with one thermostat
- Flush-mounted or surface-mounted installation depending on your requirements
