T-STRIPE Assessment

The window heating in test

Expert Opinion:

The effectiveness of T-STRIPE against window condensation has already been confirmed by three independent bodies

Expert opinions are available from 3 independent sources:

  • from the Austrian Institute for Building Biology and Ecology (IBO).
  • the ift Rosenheim
  • from certified expert Dipl.Ing. Günther Apfelbacher.

In 2015, ift Rosenheim tested T-STRIPE in its application for glass corners:

The IFT Rosenheim examined different structures of glass corners (all-glass corners) and came to the conclusion that even triple-glazed glass corners show an increased risk of condensation. In calculations, they were able to prove that the risk of condensation on all-glass corners can be prevented in many areas by using the T-STRIPE window heating.

The calculations simulated both double glazing and triple glazing with normal heat transfer coefficient (8W/(m²K)) and reduced heat transfer coefficient (4W/(m²K))

-> Glass corner expert report from ift Rosenheim on heating glass corners with the T-STRIPE window heating.

In both constructions, it was shown that without the use of window heating, condensation is hardly avoidable. This means that the use of T-STRIPE window heating is highly recommended because it can reliably prevent condensation on double and triple glazed glass corners.

T-STRIPE attracted the interest of the IBO in 2010. Subsequently, the functionality and effectiveness were closely examined.

The thermal bridge calculation with an outside temperature of minus 12°C yielded the following result: In the initial variant without T-STRIPE, a minimum interior surface temperature of approximately 7°C is achieved, with this lowest temperature occurring in the area of the glass edge seal. By using the T-STRIPE window heating, the surface temperature in the area of the glass edge seal can be improved. This means that a minimum interior surface temperature of approximately 16°C now occurs, which can be observed in the center area of the glass. In this simulation, the T-STRIPE heating element reaches a maximum temperature of 38.9°C.

"With the T-STRIPE system, the threshold values for condensation and mold formation are not exceeded, therefore neither condensation nor mold forms," summarizes DI (FH) Felix Heisinger, who conducted the expert assessment, the result.

The investigation has revealed another positive effect of the window heating system: Due to the warming in the glass edge seal and the resulting rising warm air, the entire window is warmed. As a result, the windows radiate warmth, creating a pleasant living feeling. The power consumption is low.

Most of the thermal energy used is preserved, as approximately 63.2% is directly released into the living space, thus contributing to the heating of the room.

To avoid condensation in the area of the window edge seal, those affected are often advised to ventilate more and/or heat more. Compared to the T-STRIPE window heating system, a closer examination reveals the following results and advantages:

By increasing air exchange, excess moisture is released, up to a certain temperature more comfort is achieved, the energy demand depends on the type of heating - but the formation of condensation cannot be ruled out this way. The last three points also apply to increasing the room temperature; the risk of condensation is also not eliminated by raising the dew point.

The installation of T-STRIPE guarantees that condensation will never form again.

Additionally, the windows emit a pleasant warmth, which enhances the living comfort.

Details about the IBO investigation can be found in the IBO assessment report.

The effectiveness of the T-STRIPE window heating against condensation formation on windows has been confirmed by 3 expert reports (from ift Rosenheim, IBO and an expert witness).

Furthermore, the sworn and certified
expert Dipl.Ing. Günther Apfelbacher confirmed the effectiveness of T-STRIPE in his assessment:

  • "...it must be stated that the application of the T-STRIPE system, within the framework of general accessibility on the market, represents an extremely positive contribution, previously not available, to the prevention of condensation and consequently the typically occurring mold formation at construction openings in exterior walls."
  • "...The use can therefore be recommended, subject to the associated arrangement of appropriate controls for energy saving (e.g., thermostat)."
  • "...The T-STRIPE system can be described as the first, from a practical construction perspective, flexibly applicable heating system that prevents condensation when mounted in the peripheral area of windows."
  • "...It appears advantageous that due to the flexibility of the system, installation is still possible at a later point in time when no other alternatives are available anymore."
  • "...For the sake of completeness, it must be added that the application of this system is also possible through other installation variants, which can be adapted to individual local conditions and, if necessary, can be installed concealed and thus invisibly."

"Over the years, when I was still struggling with condensation in my apartment, I learned through conversations in my private and professional environment that many people have the problem of wet windows. That's why I decided to make my invention available to others and bring the window heating to the market," explains Ing. Maximilian Hron about the origin story of the T-STRIPE window heating system. "And to be able to give my customers a satisfaction guarantee, I finally commissioned experts with an assessment," the inventor wanted to make sure.
